I Quit

Today I lost my first physical and mental battle and quit my run before it was over.

As much as I complain about how tough some of my runs are, I've always completed them and never quit.  I had 7 miles on my agenda today and struggled through 3 before I literally just gave up.  My legs felt like bricks and my mind was not in the run.  For some reason I just couldn't push through it today.

Let me tell you that it is the worst feeling ever to go out anticipating to crank out 7 miles and to come home completely defeated after just 3.  I was mad and sad and disappointed and annoyed and called my sister (who is currently training for a marathon) for a pick-me-up.  She gave me a good pep talk and helped me realize that these runs happen -- I felt much better knowing that she's been through this too.

It can't be smiles and miles all the time and today was a big reality check.  There was zero photo documentation today (shocking, I know) because I kind of just want to black out today's run forever.  Watch out mind and legs, I'm winning the battle tomorrow.

  1. You have experienced what is known as "hitting the wall". I only thought it was a saying until it happened to me. Just take it for what it is and nothing more. Your life should include running but running shouldn't be your life. Keep smiling and if you ever want someone to run with, call me. Love ya!
